Hanoi: vacation, maps, visas, tours, resorts, hotels and reviews

Hanoi

The majestic and famous capital of Vietnam, as well as the former capital of the entire French Indochina - Hanoi, can boast a huge number of its names and not only. At the end of the 11th century Hanoi bore the proud name of "Thang Long", which means in Russian "Flying Dragon", after that the city was named "Dongkikh", which means "Northern capital", and only in the mid-19 century (after losing the status of the capital) the city acquired the current name, which means "City in a bend of a river.

The entire city of Hanoi is located on the Red River, which has had its name since ancient times because of its brownish-muddy color. It is customary to divide Hanoi into New and Old Town, which include their own characteristics. For tourists who come here for the exoticism and ethnicity, you should go straight to the territory of the Old City, which at first glance resembles one huge market. There you will be able to meet:

The city's 1,000-year history, which incorporates the traditions of the West and the East, is vividly illustrated;
French quarter with green boulevards and an opera house modeled on the Grand Opéra in Paris;
a sanctuary of socialism with monuments to Lenin and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum;
a modern city of colonial times;
The gate to Halong Bay, a UNESCO site and one of the most fascinating landscapes in Southeast Asia (a sight most loved by tourists).

It is important to note that Hanoi perfectly combines vacation for any tourist. Here you will find a more European type of recreation, which includes spacious parks and avenues, studded with skyscrapers and bustling malls. Neither will the humble lovers of small, narrow streets and neighborhoods topped with colonial mansions and temples be without hearty satisfaction. The lake called Hoankiem - and at all a favorite place not only tourists but also the locals themselves. It is associated with a lot of legends and tales, which to this day told the children of Hanoi.
